Registration
Rachel is registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOsC). The General Osteopathic Council controls the practice of Osteopathy within the UK to ensure public safety. They ensure that only appropriately trained, qualified and insured professionals can work under the title Osteopath. To find a registered osteopath in your area go to www.osteopathy.org.uk and search the current register. Anyone practising with the title 'Osteopath' who is not registered with the GOsC is currently breaking the law.
Education & Training
Rachel graduated from the European School of Osteopathy in 2007 with a First Class Honours Degree in Osteopathy. Since graduation Rachel has been in Osteopathic Practise treating a range of patients from babies to senior citizens.
Alongside her practise Rachel has also completed a Post-graduate Diploma in Animal Osteopathy. This has given her the skills to apply the principles of osteopathic diagnosis and treatment to animal subjects, with particular reference to horses. For more information on equine osteopathy please go to the 'Equine' pages.
Post-Graduate Studies
Recently she spent several months at The University of New England in Massachusetts USA, studying human anatomy in greater depth and sharing her skills with the osteopathic students there. This was a valuable experience which has helped to develop her practice through a greater understanding of the workings of the human body. She hopes to continue to extend and develop her skills through future visits to the University.
The Practise
Rachel practices different approaches to treatment within the realms of Osteopathy, depending on the needs of the patient. Structural techniques may include stretching of muscles, movement of joints and manipulation techniques
which can ellicit the 'clicking' or 'popping' noises frequently associated with a visit to the osteopath.
Functional techniques are usually more subtly applied techniques which work with the most comfortable positions for the body to be in, as opposed to 'pushing through the barriers' which structural techniques tend to do.
Personal Interests
Outside of her work Rachel also has a passion for travel, enjoying the physical and mental challenges brought by visiting new countries and cultures. She has made extended visits to Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, South America and Nepal. She also loves to return to her home county of North Yorkshire where her parents are in farming.
Her personal interests range far and wide. She enjoys physical pursuits including cycling, horse riding and yoga. Always an active participant in sports, Rachel maintains her own physical well-being using many of the exercise and stretching principles she has learnt during her training – practice what you preach!
